Perhaps we have therefore misunderstood inheritance.
Inheritance is not the opposite of innovation.
It is innovation's necessary companion.
Nothing genuinely new appears without some history capable of participating in its emergence.
The future is inherited before it is created.
Not because it already exists.
But because every act of becoming begins within an organisation that has itself become through countless previous participations.
