3. The Garden at the Edge of the Bell

At the monastery of the Bell, monks believed time ended at the sound’s farthest reach.
Beyond it, they said, nothing happened.

Liora walked past the boundary at dusk.
The bell faded — but the garden continued.

Flowers bloomed out of sync.
Insects moved without rhythm.
Shadows lengthened without obedience.

When she returned, the monks asked what she had seen after time stopped.

She smiled gently.

“Nothing stopped,” she said.
“Only your listening.”

The bell still rang each evening.
But a few monks began planting seeds just beyond its echo.
