Myth is the architecture of collective imagination in time. Far from being simple stories about the past, myths structure temporal experience, compressing vast cultural rhythms into narratives that can be apprehended, shared, and enacted. They are polytemporal: bridging individual lifespans, generational memory, and cultural epochs in a single relational field.
Each myth operates across multiple temporal scales:

Through narrative, symbolic systems can align otherwise disparate rhythms. Cultural memory, ritual, and myth interweave to form a temporal lattice in which multiple durations coexist without collapsing into one another. This lattice enables both stability and emergence: continuity across generations and openness to new forms of meaning.
In essence, mythic time teaches us to perceive and inhabit polytemporal worlds. It is an architecture of relational duration, a framework through which collective imagination orchestrates temporal coherence while preserving the multiplicity of experience and the potential for creative transformation.
